Sometimes it’s obvious by the race or age that the caregiver is not the mother.  Where I live the children are mostly white and Asian, and the nannies are almost all Hispanic. But I also chat with people when I’m at the park, so I know who the nannies are from speaking to them. [/quote]

I am an MB and I have a nanny. However, we had just moved to a new area and my (adopted and a different race from me) sister was keeping my kids until my nanny could start. She was younger and while I trusted her, she wasn't particaularly entertained by watching my kids. While I did pay her, all I wanted her to do was keep them safe. She was doing me a favor by watching my kids until my nanny had worked through her notice with the family she was leaving. I didn't really expect my sister to be engaged with my kids - just make sure they're safe. She told me many stories of other mothers who thought she was the kids nanny and how they would stalk her and try to figure out who her "nanny family" was so they could report her to them. The lengths that some of those SAHM women would go to literally made me laugh out loud. And yes this was in the D.C. area.[/quote]
