Thank you for the replies! Due to my schedule I do not work consistent days throughout the week and I work varied shifts per week. That is the nature of emergency medicine. That is why we do not have "set" days. I do get my schedule 3 months in advance so I would have those days laid out ahead of time. My schedule is what complicates this process! Unfortunately, we do not have the abilities to host an au pair which would probably be our best option!
You would do best to get a full time nanny - pay for a full 40 hours Monday through Friday - and then set her varied schedule for the three months. When you are home and don't need her, your nanny can do anything and everything for the children and even run errands for the household (imagine never being out of milk or diapers again! Someone to get the strap on the bike helmet repaired and pick up a gift for the upcoming party, etc...) You pay so much more for part time than full time that it might end up being the same cost. Rare is the nanny who can work either 8 or 36 hours a week depending on your schedule and still pay her bills.
