MB here. This is actually SO bizarre that I feel like we must be missing something. Are you a live-in? That wouldn't make it OK, but at least more understandable. (Like, our nanny lives 15 minutes away, of course I wouldn't volunteer her to come in on her day off for someone else's nominal task. It wouldn't even occur to me to ask her to do it on a paid basis.) Are you doing something else for your family while you're gone that weekend? You say while they're *both* out of town, so I wonder if you're house or pet sitting for your HF and being paid for it? That would make MB a bit clueless not to have discussed it with you first, but not necessarily out of line (since you would, essentially, be being paid by her/it wouldn't be much out of your way). Basically, this makes so little sense that you're going to be looking for a new job soon because your MB is nuts... or there's relevant information missing.
Yes I am a live in nanny. Yes I will be taking care of my nf's pets. I won't be paid for it but I do get tomorrow off work as a paid day. So it's kind of a trade off. However I wasn't asked about the neighbors, I was told.
This makes way more sense. You are getting an entire day off and, in return, you are taking care of your family's pets over the weekend. You are the big winner in this arrangement since you are giving more work than you are getting. I wouldn't be surprised if your contract says something about minor duties around the house? Yes, your MB absolutely should have asked you if you'd watch the neighbors' pets too, but it's not crazy for her to assume you would given your proximity/that you are watching her pets and that it's not that much more work. I can understand why you're miffed, but (if I were you) I wouldn't bring it up unless the other pets are very different (big dogs v house cats or something) or an unusual amount of work. You left out SO much relevant information in the original question you posted that I have a hard time taking your word for how this went down/what your contract says anyway...
My contract says nothing about taking care of the neighbors pets. I left out the other info because it shouldn't matter. My issue isn't with taking care of my nf's pets. Of course I will do that however going into a home I've never been in and taking care of pets I don't know is not something I'm comfortable with. Honestly I don't like these neighbors and the thought of being in their home freaks me out a little.
