They cannot simply transfer the hours to another family. When you interviewed, you had a conversation with them about the parameters of the job, there approach to discipline, the environment in their house, etc. and deemed that they were a good fit for you before you accepted the job. Expecting you to work for another family that you don't know and have not personally vetted is completely ridiculous.
Shes not a nanny, she is a weekly sitter. She is guaranteed 10 hours. You are severely overthinking this.
It does not matter how many hours she works. Asking a nanny to go into the home of someone she doesn't know and hasn't interviewed and vetted and care for their children, who may have behavioral issues or needs that she is not familiar with or prepared for and work with people who may ask unreasonable things of her all because you don't want to pay the guaranteed hours YOU agreed to is not okay. If there is something that is part of her usual duties that you would like her to come in and tackle during her usual work hours, then that is fine (e.g., she normally handles kids' laundry and you ask her to come in and sort through clothes for the next size/season, or you ask her to come in and reorganize the toy storage or something that is in line with her usual tasks), but asking her to take on a completely different family is not. If you are a tax lawyer, your boss can't call and say that they are closing your offices for renovation and require you to come in anyway and help with the renovation.
