This makes no sense. Why would anyone do that? If she is giving you everything she earns why not just stay at home? If she was only earning nanny salary she wasn't a career woman with a high paying job to protect, so I don't see any reason she would want to work and be away from her children during their formative years.[/quote]

MB here who did exactly this 4 years ago when I went back to work.  I had stayed home with twins until halfway through kindergarten.  Went back to work at a job I was overqualified for and barely breaking even for the year after paying the nanny.  After 2 job moves I'm doing a lot better now... kids in 4th grade now and won't be kids forever... love my career and happy I was lucky/right place/right time enough to restart it after 6 years out, but this would not have been possible without going into the break-even situation for a while.[/quote]
