I've made the novice mistake of paying more because I thought someone was above average. She was the worst. The best nannies are the ones who are in it because they love children and not the money. They don't ask for the most money. You obviously have never hired a nanny.
Im stay at home mom. Husband work with Aerospace company. I have so much free time when our only child go to school. So I babysit one infant. I just charge 1000 a month for 50 hrs a week! I love the baby just like my own. But that is not enough for the parents. She wants me to do so many other things around the house. So I quit after 9 days working for her. I just told her this job is not good fit for me. Her husband try to make me understand that this is their first experience having a nanny but its too late. Another family is a Phd students and husband is senior engineer with BIG company. Lots of money huh? I only charge 7 an hour. Yet she dare to ask if I can go down to 6 an hour. I took care of her baby like a princess! They moved to other city for her intern job. Now they're back in town and want me back - I said I'm not available. While she's in the other city she keep changing her nanny. SHe told me she had 6 nannies in 3 months! Something is wrong with her. Another family I charged 350 a week for 50 hrs a week job. I quit after one month working for them. They always pickup the baby late (7pm) always forgot to give me my salary (I get paid every Friday) and always refer to a book when dealing with teething, crawling, sleeping etc. I told them every baby is different yet they always do the research day and nite ..duh!! I do babysitting job because I love babies ( I try to have more children (ivf, iui, clomid etc) but I been bless with only one) You see some parents never appreciate a good nanny. They never thought of "hey our nanny is so nice lets not make her unhappy" Now I care fo a 5 yrs old girl. Both her parents are professors . Not much money making so I change $7 YET they pay me $15 an hour They said I deserved it and appreciate me for not charging them anything when I teach her daughter Chinese languages. My oh my!
