When we moved we gave DC's nanny about 2.5 months notice and told her if she stayed til thE end, we would give her a bonus in addition to the bonus we had already planned.   We also told her we understood if she found another family that needed her to Start earlier that she would have to leave us early but asked she give us at least 2 weeks notice in that scenario as that was what was required for my job.

We had two unfortunate experiences with nannies after we moved.  One nanny quit after a month because her dad suffered a stroke and she had to go be with him as her mom was also ill.  Completely understandable that she had to leave short notice but still, a pain.

Second nanny gave us 2 months notice because her husband's job was being unexpectedly moved to another state.  We found a new nanny (who has been with us for 2 years now) 3 weeks prior to old nanny's end date.  We ended up Just paying her out for the remaining 3 weeks and having new nanny start right away.

So a lot depends on how your employers are.  Hopefully they are nice people who will pay you out your remainder time if they find someone new before 2.5 months is up.   But, they could be jerks and just tell you your last day is next week because they found someone new. [/quote]
