The parents are terrified of germs and feel that the carpet is too dirty for him.  No one wears shoes in their house so no one is tracking in dirt and I cannot see any visible stains on the carpet.  If the child drops a toy from his highchair and it falls on the floor (in their home) they run and wash it before giving it back to him.  I have asked repeatedly if he can play with other kids - or even just be close enough to watch them play - in a playroom at the local park/rec center and the MB said no, that he could get sick.   It's so sad to watch my little charge wave to the older kids and smile at them - wanting them to come over to him.  He just watches as the kids run into the play room and he sits in his stroller.

There is nothing I can do, is there?  I've tried to suggest that he needs a reason to learn to crawl but to no avail.  I told the parents how much he wants to be close to other kids, especially older kids, but to no avail.
