Anyway OP, I am not sure what state you are in. I live in CA and we have something called Trustline which is a registry that you can use to see if a prospective nanny has a criminal record. She is assigned a number and you can run that number through a database and see if anything turns up. We also have Livescan which is a Federal fingerprinting database system check as well. I do not know if all states have a similar system in place. I highly discourage you from using the background checks on Care.com and Sittercity.com They are cheap and not very thorough. Good luck.
