[quote=Anonymous]Ive only been a nanny for about 3 years or so. after finding this board I see that sick days and guaranteed hours are the norm in most job fields. Heres my situation... I have been with this family for almost a year its definitely different than any of the previous nanny positions i have had. MB is extremely easy going with letting me plan the day and pretty much completely trusting me with her kids. However! She doesn't work (she says she's a interior decorator, but we live in a town where there isn't much of a market for this) I show up in the morning and she will either go to the gym or go to her room and be there for the day... god knows what she's doing but that isn't any of my business, Im there to do my job regardless of what she does with her day. She is very disrespectful. there are so many situations i could get into but this one takes the cake.... I showed up on Wed, as usual the kids are sitting on the couch watching tv in their pjs & wet diapers, hungry for breakfast at 9:45.... (kids are 2 and 5) she pops out of her upstairs room and says to me from the top of the stairs,,, "hey,, kids are in the living room... going to bed" this happens daily... makes me very nervous that the children are left alone from the time they wake up til i arrive. However back to wednesday... After feeding the 2 year old breakfast he starts to gag and ends up throwing up.. not just a little bit but quite a lot! MB is upstairs and I send the 5 year old to let her know as i needed to clean up the puke as not to stain the carpet and i didn't want to leave the sick child. 5 year old comes back with Tylenol and says here this is from mommy... I thought maybe 2 year old had eaten too much or just had not liked breakfast as he seemed fine afterwards. MB likes me to have them out of the house during the day so she can have quite and she asks me to nap the 2 year old in my home... So we headed out of a walk and he seemed fine. In the afternoon on the way into my home the child started vomiting again.. not just once but huge vomits. I was in my home so I called MB after i had cleaned up and put the 2 year old down for a nap. She says oh, thats not good for him...sorry he's sick... he puked this morning in his bed, i guess he just needs to vomit it all out of his system.... I was quite shocked that she didn't seem to care. She was out for coffee with a friend at this point and had i known this i would have stayed home with him, but she doesn't seem to communicate with me at all about what her plan for the day is... He thru up 3 more times for MB after my shift had ended. Next day he was fine... Friday roll around and I was feeling very very ill. I ended up going to work hoping i could push thru... after the 2 year old woke up from nap at my home i started to feel nauseous. I started to vomit and needed to lie down. i texted mb as i couldn't call. no reply. I ended up texting my roommate (also a nanny who has baby-sat the kids before) and asking her to come and care for the kids. I had about 2 hours of work left. I ended up texting the boys grandma and she said she would meet the boys at their home. Roommate took the boys home and dropped them off.. Got paid on the weekend thru direct deposit and i wasn't paid for the last 2 hours after i got sick from caring for her sick child.... I am having serious money issues and i was counting on the money...I want to bring it up as i feel this isn't fair to me at all... Sorry this is long... i just needed to get everything out...
