Hello, I am 22 years old with 8 years of Childcare experience. I have nannied all through college and now I am seeking it as a career. Typically, I am a live-out nanny, but I was offered a live-in position with a family in the Tyson's area. Their kids are 10 and 9 so they are in school from roughly 9-3:30. They need me in the mornings from 6:30-9 (this is their main reason for hiring a live in because it is hard finding a sitter for JUST mornings) and my evening hours are from 3-6:30/7. When I applied, I stated that I have no problem cooking the kids dinner and laundry, but I do not do the parent's laundry. Well, we interviewed and the dad stated that he'd like me to cook the family's dinner, make beds and do the family's laundry... This is everything I stated I do not do. I think because I have free time during the day this is what they expect, but they aren't willing to pay my rate. They think because I am living in that they should pay a cheaper rate.. but I have a place to live so I am not in desperate need. I told them $18/hour net. For what they're asking what does a parent typically pay? I feel like they're seeking a housekeeping and nanny in one , but only paying $13/14 hour. I can accept $15/ hour net if all I am doing is taking care of the kids laundry during the day and fixing their dinner in the evening along with other Childcare related duties and diving them around in my car. Dad said he wants to help them with homework and get them to bed so those are duties I am not doing, any advice and suggestions would help before I accept or decline. Thanks !!
