Forced? No. But ideally, we would pay her about $9000 just to carry. In addition, we would cover all medically incurred expenses (dr.s visits, hospitalizations, therapies, etc) I only list therapy because I know that I had depression during my pregnancy and my therapist was a god send. If she has multiples we will increase her pay by double (so she would get 18K) Also, we would continue her normal salary while she is pregnant. We have a secondary nanny that will be trained by the current nanny, and we have budgeted out to let our nanny go on paid MAT leave at 7 months and stay on leave till 2 months post partum. However, if she needs to stay off longer or get off earlier that is fine too. Yes, after the birth she will be caring for the baby as she does the other kids. Her salary will of course be adjusted to compensate for the addition. We were thinking about raising her pay $8 once the baby comes. We were going to increase pay by this much regardless of if we had the baby or if she carried. And yes, I am a real MB. I don't see why this isn't appropriate. Our nanny is like a close friend to us. She knows we are trying to have another but she does not know that we are thinking about surrogacy. In addition, all the money we are planning to pay, will go to her regardless of if the baby is born. If for example, there is a M/C or termination for her health we will still pay her because of the tremendous gift she would be giving us in even accepting our request. We know that this is a tall order, but we want to keep it close to home and not have a stranger carrying our child. We know, love, respect and trust our nanny and it would mean the world to have her carry our baby.
