Oh, so you knew about the snow days for seven months. Sorry, OP, no sympathy. If you didn't like the terms, you should have started to look for a new job back in March. As for the shutdown, clearly you knew about it ten days ago, when everyone else in the country learned about it. Perhaps your MB wasn't clear about what it might mean to you, but it really is your responsibility to insure your own security. Looks like you want a new job. Good luck!
? are you kidding? if the family for any reasons cannot pay the nanny for the work the nanny is doing under the contract, it is the family's responsibility to tell the nanny. the nanny is not furloughed, she is not a federal employee. my DH is home because of the shutdown and does not get any pay, and we still pay all our bills, mortgage, aftercare for the kids and so on. for sure we do not expect people to work for free for us. if we could not pay, we would tell them upfront, not after two weeks on payday. this is dishonest. also, I find strange what the woman says, about not being sure id she gets paid or not. Fed workers are not being paid, even the ones who are essential and have to work. they essential workers will get paid after the shutdown is over, the other may or may not get back pay, but I do not see how this woman is expecting any pay if she is at home furloughed
