I've never had the luck of having back to back nanny jobs. Even if I know the job is ending at a certain point and have time to start my job search it can still take 1-2 months until I find the right position. Unfortunately I was laid off from my last steady job as the mom lost her job. About a month later I found a great new position but was let go from that a month later. I was told it wasn't about me (they weren't firing me) but that they decided their needs were changing. Now it's been about 2 months and I've yet to find the right family. It is getting so frustrating. I hate not working - don't get me wrong, I love having some time off - but I really enjoy my work and hate feeling like I'm doing nothing. I'm lucky that I live with family (still pay rent) and have recently inherited some money so I am still able to pay all my bills, though I'd rather be able to save this. I've had some great leads and interviews that always seem to not work out. I am finding a lot of people who aren't really sure of their needs or what they want. It is very discouraging to me because at first they seem to be sure of what they want and we have a great interview and then they change their mind about their needs, or their old nanny decides to stay with them, they decide not to go back to work, etc. I guess besides this being a vent, I am wondering how long it takes others between jobs?
