Take the "weekly pay" that you had come up with, figure out the total number of hours originally mentioned. Figure out what that comes out to as an hourly rate, then use that as your base rate. Tell them that any additional hours will need to be paid for at that rate, and if they are going to be asking you to come in early/stay late frequently, that you need to discuss changing your hours to include these as well. Most families will say that they need someone until 7pm instead of 6pm if they know that they are going to be showing up anywhere from 6:30-7pm on a regular basis (not counting a day with bad traffic or them getting stuck at the office one night etc). You need to know your schedule so you can plan your personal life around that. It is unprofessional of them to not think ahead and include some extra buffer time if they will need it. If they get home 15 minutes early, then they can take a few minutes to start dinner or unwind before taking over the kids for you. Also make sure that you get OT for any hours over 40 per week.[/quote]
