So there was this story that came out today about this family of a baby who had a 22 yr old in-home babysitter who their dog acted very aggressive toward. They got a strange feeling in their guts about it so they hid a camera phone in the couch cushions and sure enough, their babysitter was indeed abusing their baby. They heard audio of slapping sounds and then heard their baby wailing in pain. This is so sad, it surely breaks my heart. How can anyone be so cruel to an innocent and helpless infant? Anyway, I just wanted to say every time a story like this emerges, which is very rare, thank goodness (!), it casts us nannies/babysitters in a horrible light. As a loving and caring nanny/babysitter myself, I want to set the record straight for any parents out there who are nervous about leaving their child w/someone new in their homes. These cases are very rare and these people who abuse children are in the minority. Most of us childcare providers feel just as sick to our stomachs when these stories emerge as you do. Please do not let these "bad apples"deter you from trusting us w/your most precious commodities. Most of us absolutely would lay down on train tracks for your children. Thankfully this babysitter will never work around children again and this baby has not suffered any long-term effects of his abuse.
