Only you can really make the call, and I would think the dynamics w/ the individuals involved would be pretty important. But if you liked family 1, they liked you enough to offer it to you on the spot, and the pay is better - then that seems like the winner to me, unless you really hate driving. 13 miles can be 15 minutes or 45, depending where you are, so I guess that's a significant variable. Are they reimbursing you for your mileage on the job? Do you enjoy any particular age group a little more than the others? Are both families experienced in hiring/managing nannies (and canyou get any history on that from them)? Where do you stand on the housework issue?
I agree with this. I would totally go for position 1 but if you do not like the driving distance and don't want to take the chances of being stuck in commute traffic etc, then that is a big con of that position. Frankly, it's not just the housekeeping for the second that gets to me, but the running of errands and the extreme difference in pay. Even at $15/hr, I would find it hard to think of any pros to it over the first position as the driving to me (if considered horrible) would never be as "con" as all the extras the position 2 would want for the lower pay. If that makes sense?
