Thanks pps. In my previous position (also after care) the residence was about 12 miles away, and yes, I did do lighthousekeeping, but I also told myself that the next position I get, it would be closer and I wouldn't do any housekeeping unless directly related to children. Family 1's location is within a heavy traffic area. It took me 23 minutes to get there on a Saturday afternoon, so I imagine it would take longer during the weekdays. Family 2 resides in a less populated area with less traffic. Family 1 mentioned reimbursing for mileage on the job, but Family 2 didn't, I guess because activity is 3 miles from home 2 days a week. Family 2 asked about grocery shopping and I asked that I get paid for mileage so was asked if I would mind going grocery shopping when I get my groceries, which I wouldn't.
Red flag OP. Family 2 sound like users. Instead of reimbursing for the mileage, they want you to do their grocery shopping on your own time? Would you be paid for the time you spend shopping? It sounds like the commute is a big pull for you, but commute aside which job do you prefer?
+1! Family #1 hands down! Family #2 wants a nanny/housekeeper for the cost of a babysitter, no thanks!
