Our schedule of a 10hr day (8am-6pm) with a young toddler is more or less as follows: (7:45am) 8am : I arrive 10-15 minutes early, make my coffee, chat with MB, and get settled before she leaves for work. From 8-8:30am we play and read stories and I start any laundry that needs to be done (it wakes him up if I start it during a nap, but if it's already going when he falls asleep it's not a problem) 8:30am-~9:30am Nap 1 : this can be 40min - 1.5hr depending on day 9:30am-10am : snack & diaper change 10am - 12pm: walk to an activity out of the house (story time at the library, toddler play gym, park, swimming, playgroup) 12pm-12:30pm : walking home and getting settled back at the house 12:30pm-1pm: lunch 1pm-1:30pm : indoor playtime, a little more independent than the morning block (I'm in the room and talking to him occasionally but mostly reading a magazine, putting away dishes, skimming DCUM, or otherwise not giving him my 100% attention) 1:30pm-3pm : Nap 2 3pm-3:30pm : diaper change & snack 3:30pm - 5pm : walk to an activity out of the house (usually we go to the park in the afternoon, but if the weather is really bad we will stay home) and walk home 5pm-5:30pm : bath 5:30pm-6pm : light snack and play until parents come home at 6 Pros of a FT position are, of course, benefits, but also continuity (and familiarity) with the routine. Also there is no need to coordinate schedules between multiple families and you have the ability to be flexible with your employer as far as schedule changes go. Cons are certainly the potential for burnout, either from hours or from a lot of face time with the same children/family (although I haven't experienced that), and a lack of flexibility for your own needs when you have a set schedule.
