I just would like to share my experience and maybe hear from other nannies/families. Funny stories or tragedies. I could write a book about some of my stories, there are crazy families out there, as well crazy nannies. I've been in the US for 8 years and had several jobs, good ones and others that sometimes I wanted to leave them high and dry. 1) As soon as I moved here, the first family was amazing, but after the aupair experience, I moved on to be a nanny in the a new family, everything new, and I had some house chores to do too, so on my first day, I went ahead to clean the fridge and to my surprise I found a dead cat in there. Yes, a DEAD cat in the fridge, along with the food they feed the family. I was disgusted about that and asked about it, and the answer was that they were planning to have a funeral for the feline in another state so they needed to keep the body refrigerated to delay decomposition. --- I mean, really? I questioned their sanity. But turns out the family was okay, the cat incident was the only weird thing that happened that year. 2) Rich family in Great Falls, VA the kind of family that throws how much things around the house costs -at your face-, I really don't give a tiny rat's a** about materials things, of course I'm careful and don't touch things if I don't have to. Normal family, one day they traveled to CA and when they came back home, brought a "friend" that had lost everything she had in her life (to drugs), and they were trying to help her out. Weirdest looking lady, she had changed her name to something positive, and she was trying to get better. Uhum, when the parents were working/out of the house, I had to live with that lady, she tried to steal things from the house, tried to make me use the family credit card (I had one for business purposes) to get medicine for her, scream at me and by the end started making up things about me to my employers to get my job. She was psychologically sick, one night that lady killed herself and I was the only one in the house. SERIOUSLY. I was in the basement in my room when I heard the big boom and I rushed upstairs and found her brain stuck at the wall. I called the police immediately (obviously) and they verified it was suicide... I'm just grateful the kids were not at home at the time, they were spending the weekend at grandparent's house. my bosses were in business trip and came back as soon as I called them. I couldn't stand living in that mansion anymore and I left days later. 3) How to clean/organize a hoarder's place? My friend is a housekeeper at this house in Potomac, and we were serving in the party they were having that day. So I met this lady, and she offered me a job, same description as my friend's position and since the lady and my friend's bosses were so nice, I assumed the job would be good. Well, it didn't last 1 month, the lady was a hoarder and got pissed at me for any cleaning I'd try to do. So what's the point of having a housekeeper? Yeah, I left. These are just few stories that I (unfortunately) have experienced so far. I'd like to hear yours! I'm sure you have had crazy families or nannies and stories to tell!
