I came home this week and noticed there were some library books on the table. Then I found out my nanny opened a library card for my 12 month old son. It says "My First Library Card" on it. We are a very academic family and getting a library card would've been a big deal, a coming of age event. I wanted to take him when he was older and knew what getting a library card meant. If she wanted library books, she could've taken my library card. Up until this point, it was understood she could go to visit and do story time but because my son put everything in his mouth, we would not want library books for him to chew on. My nanny did not seem to understand why I don't want her opening accounts under my son's name. Am I overreacting to be upset?
I can understand you being upset. I remember getting my own first library card fondly. However it's not something that I'd mention to my nanny. I'd mourn it a bit with my husband and move on. You can always close the account and re-open his "real" first card later, after all. You can tell your nanny that you don't want to keep track of an extra card for him since it means two lists of checked out books,e tc. at this time. If you still don't want library books for him, reiterate that to your nanny.
