It's 20 degrees out today. The high is 25. It's one thing to be out for a short period of time, 10 mins maybe, but I feel like any prolonged length of time, it's just too cold. When I was a teacher we had rules about going outside. It had to be 40 degrees or warmer. I personally feel like 35 or so is good cutoff and any colder there shouldn't be any long periods of outside time. Especially today.. Thoughts?
You think anything below 40-35 degrees is too cold to be outside? Your poor students and charges will never get to play in snow!! Good grief. There are plenty of children in numerous states farther north than us that have fun playing outside in the cold. There should be law that disallows principals and teachers from canceling recess when its 40 degrees outside. The poor kids have to stay in their classroom and get no physical activity. Frostbite or hypothermia only occurs with windchill factors or when the child has been outside long enough and not well dressed for their core temp to start to drop. Bundle them up and go outside for several 20 minute increments if you are freaked out by the cold but there is no reason to hide inside.
