So I went to babysit for my nanny family tonight so that MB/DB could go out to dinner and a movie. When I got there, DB was upstairs putting the babies to bed and MB told me a story about what happened yesterday after I left. Apparently, DB had the twins up in the playroom (has a gate across the door) and went downstairs to let the dog out/grab the mail quick. Apparently, the door was locked so when he went to get back in, the door was locked and he couldn't get back in. The side door off the deck was locked too as well as all of the downstairs windows. DB went to the neighbors house and the husband was home and kicked in the side door for him. The twins were happily upstairs playing (they are 1 1/2) so they were fine and nothing happened to them. MB was telling me that she probably would have called the police station first before having the neighbor kick the door in. I was thinking about what I would have done in this type of situation and I think that no matter what, I would probably call the police station and THEN see if a neighbor was home. I know there is no way that I could kick in a door so I would hope that the police could help or a neighbor could help. What would you do in a situation like that?
That situation wouldn't happen with me because any time I am going outside I make sure to have my keys on me just in case. Even if I don't take my purse, keys come out of the purse and into a pocket and then back into purse once back inside. Even if you think the door is unlocked, you leave it open a crack, wedge something in it to hold it open, SOMETHING can always happen so that you are locked out. Keys on person at anytime I am outside and no one else is home to be able to let me in.
