If you are a live-in nanny and you have your own room, is it okay for your employer to allow other guests to stay and sleep in your room when you're not there? I just discovered that my employer allows other people to sleep in my room on days that I'm off.
No, it is not. The room is always part of your pay, anyone saying it isn't is lying. Unless it is not your room but a room you USE while you are there, like if you live in days you work and have your own apartment for weekends. In that case, you are using their "guest" room and are generally not leaving your stuff in there. I always ask for a keyed locking doorknob on my room for this reason. I want to be able to lock the door while I am inside, and chose to lock the door when I am out. Not all kids are great about not going into other people's private spaces and so it is just easier to have the option to lock it anytime you want to. I do usually let the parents know where there is a second spare key (hidden outside of the room) in case of an emergency, so they don't have to kick down the door. ;) I am also the type that notices when things of mine have been moved, and so I can always tell when someone has been in my room without permission.
