What hourly rate should I set? RSS feed

Hi nannies,
Please advise what a reasonable rate is for the following. We are in DC, metro accessible. Thanks!

---
Other offer terms:

40 hours a week guaranteed, 8am-4pm, 2-3 flex afternoons per month possible (nanny choice)
4 weeks vacation (2 our choice, 2 nanny)
5 sick days
9 regular holidays
$200 a month contribution toward medical insurance

---
Duties:

Taking care of 1 toddler full time, plus 1 first grader for 2 hours per day (pickup from school, bring home, give snack, get started on homework).
Extra duties involve keeping kids toys and clothes tidy, serving kids' meals and teaching them to clean up every time, plus starting any kid laundry that needs to be dealt with immediately (we do everything else, like regular laindry, food and supplies shopping, etc. on the weekend).

Who will have the older child on their days off? Summer, spring break, snow days, sick days etc?
I think you need to pay closer to $25 an hour. You have two kids and if the Nanny needs to be available for the older one then you need to pay for that.

The nanny sets the rate and you decide if you want to hire her based on her rate. For two kids, (and regardless of school it is two kids) I would think $25 for a good nanny.

If your advertising go $20 to $25 and see who responds.

Your first task is to decide what qualities your ideal nanny has: college degree? Years of experience? Long term stints with families that provide glowing references?

Then, if you prefer to set the rate, the process will start when you post your ad with the pay range you want to offer. Then you will need to look at the candidates who apply and decide if they are the right fit for your family.

If you want better candidates, you’ll have to up your rate range and repost your ad.

I will say that excellent nannies are hard to find right now, so you may have to offer higher wages to find the best possible nanny for your family.

Listen, for 4-weeks vacation, I'd do it for $25. Are you still looking? lol

$35 an hour as older child is in person school so great risk of covid. You should also give 2 weeks paid leave if she catches covid from your family/work.

$20-25/hour. Probably nearer the high end because it's only 40 hours a week.

Between $25-$30 per hour

Thanks everyone! Just to clarify, this is for post-covid times, we're working from home and managing without any childcare right now with shifts (and we're lucky with easy/"good" kids).

Then it’s $20-25

$20 would be enough but the rate also depends on experience of the candidate.

Agree with $20-25.

THis is still a two child position unless your nanny will never cover sick days, no school days, school breaks, summer. Never do the older child's laundry or pack their lunch or meal prep for them or pick up their toys, organise their room, etc
