Have him go potty every hour and then slowly back off. |
You clearly aren't a parent either so what are you doing commenting on this forum? |
+1 EVER had sole care of a child, judgmental PP? All you do is clean up after them. And pretty much for the first...oh, 18 years. Give or take. Putting a 4.5 year old with possible medical or psychological concerns back into a diaper is counter productive in every respect: it shames, it adds to any emotional stress he's already feeling, it conceals the severity of the problem making it difficult to report to the doctor, and it prevents the child from learning to listen more closely to his body. You're wrong wrong wrong. |
Yikes! So sorry you have to deal with this OP.
I once had to care for a five yr. old who pooped in his underwear often. Not fun. While spanking may help, I would never EVER to so to someone else's child. Never. Too much liability involved. |
Is it possible that he's constipated? If he's backed up, it could be pressing on the bladder causing accidents. Look up encopresis. |
Is he especially thirsty too? Diabetes caused lots of accidents in my charge. |
Please provide us with some peer-reviewed evidence that spanking a child for having a bathroom accident "may help." Because that's one of the stupider things I've heard on DCUM. |
+1 Stupid, psychologically damaging and very cruel. |
I think having him wear a pull-up and no pants during the high risk hours of the day is what you gotta do until he's willing to get back on the bandwagon.
I assume he's either angry or experienced some kind of trauma. If this were my kid, I'd be taking him to the Dr. |
What does his doctor say? |
Doctor visit, if these are accidents. Constipation is often a cause of pee accidents.
Doctor referral to a qualified child therapist if this is deliberate/defiant, as in, he looks you in the eye, smirks, and pees on the furniture. |
I have no idea why but my 4 year old decided to pee in random places in the bathroom but not in the toilet. He peed in the magazine basket, for instance. We were not going through any changes, no stress. First couple of times, I thought he just wasn't able to get his pants down in time and some pee ended up elsewhere. Once I figured out what was going on he got a stern talking to and timeout. He hasn't done it again. I'm sure it was a phase. If you were 4 years, wouldn't you be kind of curious "I wonder what happens if I don't pee in the toilet?"
Could be the boy has problems. Could be a phase. |
