We live in a rental community that has facilities available to the people who live here. Today, I came across a metal bench outside that has all the names of my family + my nanny's name etched on it, probably done using a stick. Based on how all the names are spelled, and the fact that my DS is only 2, my nanny obviously did it. I'm so angry! For starters, we could be charged for the damage. Also, she's teaching DS that vandalism is acceptable. How would you handle this? Would you terminate over this? |
Are you willing to start search over for this? If so go ahead |
If ever there was a troll, you areot. What a ridiculous attempt! |
Ridiculous post. If you are not a troll and this is real then you obviously should have hired an older nanny. |
OP here. I'm not a troll. And the nanny is in her 50s. It's a real situation, even though it sounds ridiculous. I can see why you'd think it was fake. |
If you think that a poster is a troll, just ignore the thread or use the "report" button to let me know. Repeatedly calling other posters "trolls" is itself a form of trolling. |
Is there any chance someone else may have done this to get your nanny in trouble? Ask her about it and, if she did it, you have a nanny with extremely poor judgement. I'd let her go. |
I would most definitely talk to your nanny about what she did.
Let her explain why she did this, then let her know why what she did was very wrong. Then let her go. This would be a deal-breaker in my book. |
I'm sure she thought is was "cute." It shows a stunning lack of concern for other people's property to me, though, which includes public property (I know this is a private community, but I would feel the same if she carved names in a park bench). I would hear her out, though. |
Simply unbelievable. Where did you find her? Care.com? |
OP here. Thanks for all the responses.
I can't imagine it was anyone else. She always spells my son's name wrong, and this had the incorrect spelling. I was leaning towards letting her go, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't overreacting. And to the PP who asked where we found her, it was actually here. She worked with a family for 7 years and came highly recommended. However, we've been a little underwhelmed by her overall, and she hasn't been the best fit for our family. It just goes to show that people value different things in a nanny. |
Are there other names carved in the bench or just yours? How can you carve a name with a stick and have it be destructive? A pocket knife I can see, but I'm having a hard time visualizing a destructive stick carving. |
