Pay rate for infant 50 hrs/wk plus a 4 yr old 35 hrs/wk RSS feed

I don't think you can get an experienced nanny for $15 anywhere in the DC metro area. And I would not be surprised if an experienced nanny asked for $18 as a base rate for two kids (even if one is in school part-time) and overtime of $27. Candidly, I regularly see nannies asking for $20 hour these days...

Actually you can - easily. Ability to drive and other requirements can start tipping the scales to a higher hourly rate but at $18/hr an employer in the DC area, with reasonable expectations, good benefits, and a standard work week, will have TONS of qualified applicants.

OP here again. I think we could drop the driving requirement since the preschool is less than a block away. We'd prefer a driver just because it would give us more options for summer camps or future activities we might consider.

The one thing I hadn't really considered was the higher rate for OT. Even though we'd technically pay it since we do everything through a payroll agency, I was still mentally thinking a flat $18/hr. If we do OT for 10 hrs a week, it brings the overall hourly rate up to almost $20/hr. For 2 kids in NWDC, maybe that's where we should be.

We're not looking for a "bargain" here--just wanting to know what is fair so we don't over or under pay. Really appreciate all the feedback.

For the PP indicating this is "really" a 1 kid job, where do you propose OP stash her older child the 35 hours per week she is not in school? Because Nanny is only getting paid to care for one kid in your universe.

Then start with a lower hourly rate OP and work the numbers out to the weekly salary you want to offer. (Didn't someone already do this math for you?) Your rate is more than competitive - you should be fine.

It's all a matter of who you want and what her rates are.

Actually, your base rate of $18/hr is on the higher than average for two kids in NWDC. I would stick with it, though, because you are looking for some light housework and flexibility. But I agree with the PP that you need to pay OT for the 10+ hours over 40.

$18 for two kids isn't higher than average for two kids in NW Dc. It's what YOU would pay. to the OP, you're offering a fair rate.

No. $18/hr for two kids is on the high end of average in NWDC. You agree, as you confirmed that OPs offer is fair.

Market rates are real. Educate yourself.
