hmm.. not really. I'm sarcastic to my kids all the time, and they have started to understand it. Case and point from earlier today,

Son (4): Mommy are you gonna vaccum me up?
Me: yep, sure am, the vacuum will pick you up and fold you real small.
Son: youre just kidding!!
Me: yes sweetie, i am.

To some extent it depends on the child, age plus other factors. If you study child development, however, you'd learn about this.

I am 14:59. OP, it sounds to me like she has a strong sarcastic streak. As an adult, I could deal with it, but for an adult to use it on a child, is extremely harmful. I am not sure anyone can fix her.

Completely different. I understand what OP is saying regarding the sarcastic tone boardering rude. It will make people, esp children, feel put down and they might start keeping things to themselves fearing they will be made to look like a fool.

Is the nanny from West Africa? They tend to be condescending. Their nature is very assertive and at times inappropriate. It's very irritating. Your best bet is to get another replacement. This is something that will not change.
