When I vacationed with my work family I was paid my regular weekly pay and all my expenses. I was expected to babysit 2-3 evenings while the parents went out but I also had time during the day to do my own thing. Also, I had the option of going on the vacation or staying home and receiving my regular pay. I had a good relationship with them and knew I wouldn't be taken advantage of so I enjoyed the chance to go on a free vacation. |
You are legally required to pay nanny for all "on duty" time - time when she is not free to pursue her own pursuits without the children. You can legitimately exclude up to 8 hours of sleep time, providing that at least 5 hours of sleep is uninterrupted, and she has at least 8 available.
Sounds like she was working 13 hour days if I did the math right on your schedule, assuming that she was required to stay and sleep with the kids (there was no other responsible adult present in the room.) |

Op here. We have done all of the above including the $250 spending money.we overed all her expenses. She did, however, work more than her regular hours so I am happy to pay her the hours she worked. |
We took our nanny on vacation recently and paid her double her normal weekly pay for the week. She slept in the same room as our child so was waking with her when she woke, which was sometimes once a night and some nights not at all. We of course also paid for all of her food and other expenses, etc and she had her own bathroom.
I love our nanny - she is fabulous. I know that her coming on vacation with us meant that she would be away from her husband for a week so I wanted to be sure to compensate her well. Also, it was our vacation, not hers. Yes, we were in a beautiful place, but it was work for her. |
Good god almighty! How was this a vacation for her? Pay her for every hour for the ten days. She had to nap with your kids, share a room with them. Oh, yes, she just had the vacation from hell. Why do your kids need an adult to nap with them and why can't you take care of your own kids on a family vacation? Your nanny is seething with trsentmemt of how you used her. Happy to pay her the hours she worked? That should be a given. Why are you waiting around for her to submit a time sheet, when you are well aware of what hours she worked? Although you say you'll pay "whatever she asks for" it seems like you are hoping she will submit less hours than she actually worked, which you are ready to take full advantage of. Just admit it. |
I don't think the OP meant the nanny was forced to curl up in bed with her charges while they napped. I would assume the OP just wanted someone to be present in the hotel room/ cabin/ house (whichever the case was) so that the children were not unsupervised. OP is asking what she might expect to pay the nanny for her extra work- she is acknowledging that it is work. What is it with the gigantic chips on everyone's shoulders around this place? Why are you all so dead set on trying to turn any question into something it isn't? Or is it just one troll who is in the wrong field answering all of these posts and making all nannies look bad? |
