Its almost an annual tradition. Every year, nannies who negotiated contracts offering only federal holidays as paid holidays get into an uproar that they are asked to work on a non-federal holiday, the day after Thanksgiving. They screech about how their MBs are out shopping. Employers point out how the day after Thanksgiving is not a federal holiday and if they wanted it off then they should have negotiated for it or take a PTO day. Nannies accuse parents of not loving their children for making the nanny not get an extra freebie day off beyond the contract. Its highly entertaining. |
I have to work the day after Thanksgiving. I don't really care. I knew in advance. |
I worked in retail and nursing homes before becoming a nanny. I've never had black Friday off from a job. Last year, my boss gave me off w/o pay, and I just didn't know what to do with myself. Shop? Sleep? Clean the house? |
That is just idiotic it's a normal day so why wouldn't you be expected to work? If you're having family over or going out of town then request off otherwise it's a normal day. When i was a nanny for doctors especially er ones i always worked the day agree Thanksgiving and even had to work some holidays not a big deal. To the nannies that say they want off to go shopping how do you think the employees at the store feel because they have to work so you can shop especially the ones that now have to work on Thanksgiving because the stores want to open even earlier they now have to leave their families earlier so that people can go shipping i think that is far worse |
Well I'm off so guess that won't be me. I'm working today and half day tomorrow, than my MB, DB, and charges are out of town for a week. I get a nice little paid week off ![]() But I am counting down the minutes til than! |
I'm a nanny working a 24 hour shift from Thanksgiving evening and all day Black Friday. I don't care, I'm glad I can avoid traffic. I knew that I was bound to work some holidays since both parents are in the medical field and have to work crazy hours. I don't care, I do my jobs. You sound like a negative nelly who just wants an excuse to slam nannies. |
I negotiated Christmas Eve and the day after Thanksgiving in my contract, so I'll be sleeping off my turkey dinner on Friday. I have to wonder why you're trying to stir up complaints? Either people will complain or they won't, there's no need to encourage them just so you have a chance to bash them. |
I have Wednesday-Friday off paid!! Works out for me since Wednesday is my birthday! |
I have Friday off without pay, works for me, I know is not a holiday. |
I get to go shopping with my MB- we are leaving the kids at home with dad![]() |
I am taking the kids ith me to my mom's house for the weekend. MB is attending a funeral. ![]() DB would complain for q solid month if expected to care for his kids for four days without help (they are both preschool-aged and potty trained) smh. I didn't want MB to feel that her kids were missing her or to worry about them while she's grieving, so we will go be tourists in my hometown and do fun outings. |
Have had almost 90% school holidays off since one parent is a teacher...was surprised when I was first told this as I assumed that I would get the typical Fed holidays and 2-3 vaction days off..it rocks!!! ![]() |
OP
Nanny here, even you stated that you don't think she has malicious intent, why would you be upset? I think the. I names are cute and I've used them for my little charges before, it usually so did MB/DB. Babies are suppose to be "chunky", think of it as a compliment to your DD health! |
the family I work for is out of town all week! Paid, of course. So happy. |
Um, wrong thread. |
