OP here. Thanks for the advice, I think I just wanted to hear the answer from impartial sources. She went privately to my husband today asking for money as well, and lied saying I had agreed to give her salary to her early. That just made the decision easier.
I am a first time poster and had a nanny question. We are currently overseas and employ a nanny for our two children. Although she seems great with the kids (our two year old loves her, and she seems knowledgeable with the baby), I've had several issues with her.
She routinely arrives 15 minutes late with no explanation as to why she's late. I'm home on maternity leave, so its not like I'm running off to work, but it is still annoying. She has also been asking for her bi-monthly salary earlier and earlier (its now a week off schedule). Today I said I couldn't accommodate her since it was too late in the day to get the money, and she became quiet and grumpy. She has started talking on the phone more and more while handing the baby. Yesterday she was on the phone for 45 minutes while the baby was awake. I finally took him and told her I would handle her while she was talking. I know I should address these issues directly with her instead of being passive aggressive or angry, but I get nervous since she is taking care of my kids and I don't want her to resent them because she is angry with me. She has complained to me in the past about how terrible her past employers have been, and I'm starting to think she is the problem, not them.
I think it comes down to her attitude. I've never had issues with past nannies and have always had a good relationships with them so I'm not sure how to navigate this situation. I feel the nicer I try to be, the more she tries to take advantage. We're paying her about 40% more than the average rate here, with fewer hours as well. Do you think I should work on these issues with her, or try to find a new nanny? Thanks!
