It would be good if nannies had any real voice within the International Nanny Association.

For instance:
For nannies who might be coming up on the market for a new job, why don't the agency board members allow these INA member nannies the ability to list themselves as available for hire, along with some limited space for more detailed specifics?

That's only one clear example of agency conflict of interest. There are many more.

If nannies can't list themselves, then agencies should not be allowed to list themselves either, on the INA website. The way it is now, it appears to be an agency self-promoting scam.

Would an INA agency board member please explain that?

Sorry I have been working and not able to comment. NCS can be either a nanny or business. As they are a caregiver or a business. I know of only one member that is a business as they place NCS as well as are a NCS. Does this answer your question if NCS are nanny or business members?

This is Marcia again. A NCS is an individual member. If they want to be listed as a business they must purchase a more expensive "business" membership in addition to the individual membership. We hav 619 child care giving members in INA. Over half - it is actually around 70%.

We (the INA Board) are happy to answer any questions you have. Please understand that we all have jobs and in my case my own family to manage in addition to our INA responsibilities. So if it takes us a little while to respond, it is not because we do not care, or we do not know. It is just because we are busy and will give a thoughtful answer when we can.

Just noticed the 14:41 post. So here's what we understand:
A newborn care specialist is a sub-category of a nanny.
She can be either an employee or a business with her own clients.
Is this correct?

You didn't ask me specifically but I am happy to try to answer your question. Thank you for giving a specific example of something you would like to see.

If I am understanding correctly, you would like an option for nannies to be listed as available for hire on the INA website?
Are you suggesting it be on a message board such as our jobs board? Or on the member directory listing where the nanny can make comments that they are available?
What do you mean by nannies listing themselves? They are listed in the membership directory. Everyone who OPTS IN is listed in the directory.


As for the Agency Board members making the decisions, that is not true. We as a collective board make a decision. We present information to each other, discuss and vote on things. We have about 70% of our membership as caregivers and 30% as businesses. The nannies do have a voice just like any other member of the organization. I am entering my 4th year on the board. One example of a nanny voice being heard and changed is our conference registration fee. Three years ago the board was approached to offer a 50% off conference registration fee to new members after June 1, of the previous year. This has been successful. Many nannies have utilized this discount and came back the following year as well.

This year we had many new nanny agencies that were founded by nannies who have retired from active nannying or will be doing nanny work along side with placing nannies. This seems to have a great aspect of both sides of the placement agency in my opinion.

Again as I mentioned before I am happy to bring things to the attention of the INA board and work with you or anyone else on items. Any changes that want to be done need to be explored then presented to the board. I hope you have seen by the majority of our board that we are approachable and welcome thoughts and ideas.

The priority of agency business owners, is their profits. This is a distinct conflict of interest with nannies and families, who strive to provide the best possible childcare.


You've got to be kidding. So agencies are only out to make money but nannies don't care about money they only want to provide better care for children. This laughable when every post from a nanny on this board is how they want, wish, deserve more money.

I suspect that there is bad blood between nannies who don't qualify to meet an agencies minimum bar. Agencies are businesses and need to only represent qualified nannies to stay in business. This knocks out a lot of nannies who have poor work histories, bad driving records, criminal records, refuse vaccinations and TB tests, and lack education.

Where was the above quote taken from? I must have missed it.

I can say that I have been on/off this message board for years. I have not said I wanted more money etc. I have commented on various parent questions and education things.

Individual: approximately 625 member (where nannies, NCS, specialty nannies, employers etc. would join)
Independent Supporter: unsure of the number, sorry (anyone who supports the mission of INA)
Standard: approximately 125 members (placement agencies, training programs and nanny support groups)
Supporting: approximately 200 members (industry service companies, au pair agencies, web based nanny recruiting sites.

Why isn't there a simple "nanny" category? There could be sub-categories of nanny specialties, if you want.
Parents should, either have a category, or be "other".

If INA wants to try to be an umbrella organization for all in-home care, they'd have to get the daycares. And finally change their name to reflect the truth. But daycares don't want to belong to a nanny group the way everyone else does, even when you're not a nanny.
