I don't know anything about that, but for practical purposes, we have a wifi we can give my family and babysitters when they're over.

I do make it clear that I expect personal phone to be limited to nap times, but we don't have a GPS in the car. I might send a text during the day. My parents may want to Skype with the kids while the nanny is on duty. I make my preferences known, I expect about 90% compliance on this issue, and as far as I can tell, that's what I'm getting and I'm happy with it. I think the practical considerations for us mean that she should have wifi access on the job, and I trust that it's not being abused.

Your husband thinks your nanny might use your wifi password to spy on you?
Wow.

I've bolded the details you missed. It's no one specific that he's worried about. We don't give the wifi pw to anyone. He set up a guest wifi account that is given to all guests, nanny included. So even my mom doesn't have the regular wifi pw, she gets the guest account. Same with my ILs. Everyone who needs wifi, has functioning wifi access on the guest account, so it's all the same to them. It's more secure for some technical reasons I don't care to find out about.

This is not so crazy. If the other computers in the home are networked, it is fairly easy to get to them from any networked device. If they keep personal and financial information on those computers, they might not want to share. Anyone tech savvy enough to set up a guest password is probably also savvy enough to network the household.

I get like 150 MB a month...it is definitely not enough. If you seriously don't trust her to have wifi access on her phone you need to hire someone else.

150 MB a month is perfect for email and news, if that was truly all you were checking. Sounds like you want to watch youtube and more though.

Who cares if she is watching Youtube during her downtime? Is it in any way impairing her ability to care for your napping child?

+1. You not giving it to her is just going to make her use her data up - it's not like she wont be using the internet at all the entire time she's there.

+ agree. I don't even have a date plan on my phone.

I even have it on my fridge, along with emergency contact numbers. It's a bit bizarre to not have access to wifi at a home.

+1. I have a hotspot that I carry with me in case the kids and I get stuck in major traffic, that way we can look up random silly things. I also use it to pull up maps, event info, etc. If I have to use my hotspot at my employer's house because they're too cheap to give me the wifi password, I'm not going to pay $50 for 5 gb to use with the kids (I use maybe 1 gb for myself while waiting for kids at the school, which is why I pay for it), I'll just get enough for myself, but I will demand that the benefits in my contract, because I would assume that the other benefits that come with the position usually are also not available (fruit and veggies for snacks, meals with kids, etc.). That means that instead of my taking my vacation when the family does, I will take it when I want (2 weeks of my choice, 1 week theirs) and still have guaranteed pay while they are gone, I will be added to *every* membership the family has, so that not only can I take kids, I can use it for myself, and I will make sure that mileage is calculated to the tenth of a mile for every.single.trip, instead of saying x for gas week, regardless of what we do. Common courtesy people. I don't abuse your trust, you don't abuse mine, and everyone is happy. It's not like I sit on the couch every day, but when the kids are playing a game and they don't want me to play with them? Sure, I'll sit down for 5 minutes at the other end of the table, and I'll check my email, look up events coming up at school/library/park, find out what's happening in the neighborhood, etc.

I use my phone for work related things all the time, mostly music, but looking up activities, recipes, etc. I may also have to access the Internet for personal use on occasion, as I am an adult and have things that I too need to tend to, as I'm sure you do at your job. Seems like you want to penny pinch and micromanage.

I agree. You're looking to be petty and micromanage. Keep at it and you will not be able to hold onto a decent nanny.

If she wants to take a pay cut down to minimum wage while the baby naps I am happy to let her watch netflix.

So while you are driving you are going to set up a mobile hotspot and start searching the internet for silly things? Sounds real safe. Good job!

Seriously? So if your nanny finishes all of her duties for the day, including housekeeping, planning activities, ect, you are going to begrudge her a little downtime watching a show or listening to music? What the hell is she supposed to do, stare at the wall? I certainly hope your boss is making sure you make minimum wage during the time you spend posting here. SMH, pathetic...

Peachy! So when baby wakes up early, baby gets to cry for 45 minutes until "naptime" is over, because you dictate that x hours are paid at a lower rate? I don't think so.

No, the kids are old enough to turn on the hotspot and the laptop...

Yep, that sounds about right - DH has all the computers synced up. Not allowing outside computers into the network isn't about who will, or won't, "spy" - it presumes intention. If my non-tech savvy mom signs in on a virus infected laptop, she doesn't realize she's compromising everything we have on our network. I don't really get it be beyond that level of detail, but good enough for me - well intention-ed, and trusted, guests may unknowingly bring in viruses, either physical or electronic, so you wash your hands and give out a guest wifi.
