Bringing Your Kid To Work RSS feed

Hi
I’m a first time mom, and a baby girl. Will be 4 months later this month. I wanted to see if this is common or even a thing and how to go about it. I’m a part time nursing student, and looking to earn my own income, but would need to bring my little one. Has anyone has success in bringing their little to work? How do you go about making a post? What’s an ideal
rate to charge?

Thanks!! Any advice / leads is greatly appreciated!

It isn't very common, and the pay isn't great. Many families would be concerned you'd prioritize your baby over their children.

Some questions to consider:
Do you have any nanny experience?
Do you want full time hours or part time?
Since you're in school, what hours are you available to work? Would those hours change by semester?
Are you in VA, DC, MD, or elsewhere?
Is your car able to fit another car seat?
Would you prefer a little one about the same age as yours, or are you looking for an older child?

Let's say you're able to work the prime time lots of parents want: after school for a few hours. You find a family with an older child. Are you okay with your baby napping in the car/on the go? How would you handle it if the older child is having a hard day and throwing a tantrum in the car, which wakes up your baby from her nap?

I think you'd be looking at $20/hour max.

You need to charge about half the going rate. What you’re offering is akin to a nanny share.
If you watch another baby and the rate would be $25 you offer to do it for $12-15.

Most nanny-shares pay 2/3 going rate each, so she could ask for $18 IMO.

What’s going to matter is that it seems to the parents that they’re not just funding your SAH parenting. Have a plan in place for how you’re going to give appropriate attention to both kids, how you’re going to deal if your child is sick, doctors appointments, etc.

Nursing is a job where the nurse needs to pay full attention to the patients. Find child care.
