Our nanny of 4 years is now demanding that we provide her with a vehicle to transport the kids to school and activities.
In the past we have provided the nanny with only a 25 dollars weekly gas stipend? Do Nannys usually demand that employers provide a vehicle ? Would appreciate any advice! |
I started out using my car but then they were asking me to do more and more driving. I also wouldn’t put a kid in the front and they asked me to bring both kids plus 2 friends home from school and I said no. I didn’t demand it per se but made it clear their driving needs has changed. They bought a van for me to use.
I’m assuming your needs have changed too. |
I use to use my car and I will never do it again. Mileage reimbursement isn’t enough. Wear and tear , mileage etc I only drive now if a car is provided. Parents said kids need a snack and my car was always trashed . |
To put a kid in front is illegal, are you a troll telling us the parents asked you to put the kid in front? |
It worked out for us to let the nanny use my old car so I got a new car. Yes, having three cars was annoying in terms of insurance, maintenance, etc., but I loved not having to share a car with our nanny.
I didn’t want our nanny using her own car. I thought she might resent it, plus I felt our car was safer, I could ensure it was properly maintained, I could keep the car seats in there, etc. It was expensive but worth it. |
25 dollars says nothing. How many miles does she have to put on her car because of your kids? Have her catch an uber on your dime if you think she is unreasonable.
There is more to car owning than gas allowance. The more one drives, the more chances for accidents. She is also responsible for the kids safety in her car. Imagine you are able to prove she knew her car had a problem and they got into an accident. She can lose everything. Not the case driving your car. I drive only 3000 miles a year. This means my car will last forever. This is not the case for her. All the parking, getting kids in and out- wear and tear. Parking sucks at school pick up and drop off, and cars can easily be scratched. |
Wuw! Aren't you generous! I wouldn't let a bunch of kids in my car for a measly $25. |
What??
Your Nanny “demanded” you buy her a car?! Time to find a new Nanny!! All kidding aside OP - $25/wk for having your Nanny drive while in-the-job is very minimal. You are required to pay her the Federal Mileage rate which likely supersedes $25/wk. |
I would fire my nanny if she straight up DEMANDED that I purchase her a new car!!
You need to kick this nanny to the curb immediately!! |
Yes you should provide a car. That’s not enough compensation |
