Hi Nannie’s
My job is really weird I work many 12h days and the kids are not allowed to have any TV They don’t play music I’m stuck in the house all days I can take them outside for a walk but that’s about it. Now the kids only nap for like 1h and I have no time to do anything Clean up laundry no time There’s no swing or bouncer or anything for the baby She’s with me all day long glued to me She cries any time I put her in the pack an play I’m burned out haha Do any Nannie’s have jobs like this where they stay home all day? I do activities and stuff with them but for 12h with no break is a lot |
OP
I also have a 3 year old Doesn’t go to the playground or have any play dates no TV no friends no library |
Did you know going into the job that you wouldn’t be allowed to take them to the park or library? I would give notice and look for a family that allows you to get out of the house. |
OP here
In the interview I told them about how I knew all the towns and libraries, farms, playgrounds And I’d love to take the kids there My references confirmed all this They never said no so I assumed it’s normal stuff for Nannie’s I had many jobs and been doing this for a very long time The way I found out is on the day of my final interview when I came to see the house again They said oh actually we don’t want you driving them around |
I hope you are getting 50% for over time, 12 hr day sounds terrible |
I have never heard of a nanny being limited to being at home! That would be tough for most people.
The neighbors across the street have a nanny who NEVER leaves the house with the kids (twin boys around 1.5 yo). She never even takes them outside. I think it’s because the parents are really nervous and cautious but I personally don’t think that’s good for kids. Even on beautiful days, they never go outside. It’s weird. |
Yikes!
Working twelve hr days w/two young children sounds like too much!! And you are not even allowed to drive them anywhere as well??! Are you a live-in? Honestly OP > if you can afford to - it sounds like a second form of hell & I would look for another Nanny position. Because if you continue on w/this position, then eventually something will have to give. Hopefully you can find a new family……one that will appreciate that you should be permitted to drive the children out on daily outings which will benefit them so much! It seems cruel to me not to let you drive the kids anywhere during your very long shift! |
Where are you located? Get a new jobs. Restaurants are hiring. No experience needed, flexible schedule, and they feed you.
Sounds like a nightmare Au Pair job I had in the middle of a Boonieville with kids eating oodles and noodles. |
I’d get a new job. Burnout is real |
I’m feeling burned out just after reading this job description. Please quit before you put your mental health at risk. |
I would talk to them asap. Say you need to be able to leave the house for more than a walk. If they say no, give your 2 week notice.

Are they foreigners? Some tend to treat nannies as servants. |
