Hi ,
I recently got a job offer . The family want me to take care of six month old baby boy. They don’t want me to take the child outside.
I understand it’s cold now but even when it warm they want me to stay at home.
I worked with many families where parents allow me to be outside with kids.
I am confused. I don’t want to start and then leave .

Are you guys would be okay with that kind of situation?
Thanks

This is not unusual, I know many families who have a similar preference when the child is young.

No outside time? Ever? You can't be in the yard? You can't go for a walk? Nothing? That's insane. Don't take that job.

I would never take a job where I had to be cooped up inside all day with a child.

Yes my friend that’s my point . I don’t think I will take the job.

I'm a parent and would fire a nanny if they weren't willing to take my kids out daily unless there was a monsoon or something.

Can someone share with me to talk family how it’s important for the child to be outside?

This is DC and there are lots of safety concerns. Unless you're in the suburbs I don't see anything wrong with a parents asking the nanny to keep an infant inside. The "air" doesn't do anything for a 6 month old.

Nannies who say they don't take the job if they can't go out are all the nannies who consistently congregate at the park chatting and hanging out with other nannies with no regard to the child. We've all seen what it looks like at the park. This is not your social time, it's the time meant for the baby.

Above poster you are so wrong. Fresh air does wonders for their lungs and general health. Also their vision, as their eyes start looking different distances it helps their development: Kids being inside more now than years ago are why so many young kids now need glasses.
Being outside matters.
OP no I would not take this job.

These answers are so racist. You're all assuming every single parent that can afford a nanny is a white family. No they are not. So many cultures are not ok with their nanny taking the baby out before the child is a certain age. For you to assert that what you know about child development is superior to other cultures show how racist you are.

OP, this is absolutely not a red flag, it just means that is what that family is comfortable with.

What cultures don’t believe a baby needs fresh air and sunlight?

No, it's not up to you to lecture them on whatever the baby should be allowed outside. They were upfront about their requirement. If it sounds like something you would object to, don't take the job. If you violate their rules, they may fire you. Right or wrong, parents get to decide about activities and locales for their children. And some (not all) nannies do take advantage of being allowed to drive the kids somewhere when it's mainly for the nanny's benefit.

I'd mention stimulating their brain, exposing them to seeing new people, becoming familiar with the neighborhood and the people in it, etc.
