Going rate for summer sitter? RSS feed

Rather than doing camps, we are looking at getting a college or later high school student as a summer sitter for our five and seven year old. This would involve taking them to swim practice (probably meeting a parent there around 9am) being physically present while they do tennis at our pool but not dealing with them and then entertaining them at either the pool or in the neighborhood. We might intersperse some half-day camps in there for one or both of them at a given time but want to pay them a single rate regardless of how many kids they are responsible for. What is the going rate for something like this?

My daughter is a junior at UVA, she works for a family in the summer(2 boys 5-7 year old) and gets about $25/hourly. 20 hours a week and mileage reimbursment.

We pay $20 an hour for one kid in moco. We need her driven places. Our sitter had been with us since the summer before senior year and she’s now a freshman at mcc. This summer will be her 3rd with us.
