part-time nanny/babysitting rates in Chevy Chase MD RSS feed

Anonymous
Hi, I'm looking for input on what a reasonable rate is in the Chevy Chase MD area for part time nanny/babysitting. Hoping to find someone who can take care of my 18 months son 2-3 days a week from 8 am to 12 pm. We live very close to the metro and there are multiple parks within walking distance so driving is not required.

Thanks!

Probably around $30hr especially with the so few hours. That's a very hard scheduling to find another job that is 3 full days plus 2 half days to supplement.

If you are slightly flexible on hours you might find a FT Nanny who has school age kids that might be available those hours.
I used to do this twice a week from 930-1 for someone for $15 an hour. ( 15 years ago lol) I think you could find someone for $20 an hour but guarantee at least 3 hours.

No. Way. For $20. Make it 5 hrs and just pay $150, and you may find someone. Driving is not relevant since it does not change the rate.

I work 2 days in Bethesda from 12PM-5PM just 1 boy(14 months)$30 hourly.

There is absolutely no way you will find someone for $20hr. I made $20 babysitting in high school and college from 2004-2009.

Nanny here and I would say $30hr and guarantee those hrs

OP doesn’t need a Nanny teaching her kid a foreign language, doing flash cards, and exposing him to the violin. She needs a sitter for a toddler for 4 hours 2-3x a week.

Well, she may keep posting then. Most nannies do not teach violin either but make around $30 full time with benefits.

I would say minimum of $24/Hr.

It's less about what the nanny is actually doing during that time, and more about the nanny holding that time in her schedule with reliability. The few hours just a few days a week means that she can't accept full time employment somewhere else. To make a reasonable living, she is going to have to cobble together several part time jobs, and it might be harder to find these jobs with hours lining up perfectly.
The nanny's best bet is probably to find another family with older children that only wants care after school, but nanny will still end up with a few random hours (between noon and 2 or 3 pm) and a few mornings each week where she is not earning money.

My name is Lisa and I am looking for any occasional babysitting. I have excellent references/background check. If you have any interest please contact me at 703-447-7986.

I agree w/ the $30/hr - because it's so parttime.

That is what we're paying our person (used to be fulltime, now just a few hours a week) to make it worth her while and ensure that we're a gig she wants to keep.
