Hi Nannie’s
I’m all confused I’m supposed to be working M- F But mom gave me the day off, and I thought it was paid. She doesn’t want to pay me for Monday. So now she says that I still “owe” her all my guaranteed hours to be worked Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday So my days are longer…. I mean I know why… she wants to save money for Monday What would you guys do? I talked to her about it yesterday and told her that’s not how it works… And she said You’re still getting your weekly guaranteed hours… I thought it’s be good for you to have a day off to relax ?!?!?!?! |
Um no that’s illegal to bank hours. Very sketchy move on your employer’s part and I would explicitly explain to her if she gives you the day off it must be paid and the hours cannot be made up at another time. Keep a close eye on her from on she doesn’t sound trustworthy. |
She’s wrong. You need to talk to her and lay it out. |
Do you have a contract?
If she isn't paying you for Monday, is she paying you more for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday? |
She should have asked you first if you want to do 4 longer days instead of 5 regular days. I personally would love to work 4 longer days, but no longer than 9 hrs aday. |
OP here What do you mean by paying me more the other days? More per hour? No! Why do you think she would pay me more? Ty! |
OP here Yes, 4 days instead of 5 is a great idea! It’s not! If you do the math, I am losing out on almost $200 and that’s bugging me! If she had paid me for Monday, I would only have had to “give her 28h” out of my 35 guaranteed for Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday. I would still get Monday paid off!!!! Now she gave me Monday unpaid off, plus expects me to work 35h T-Fr…. So I’m out 7h If she did it the guaranteed way, I would have 35h working Everyday 9-4pm And Monday would have been off Now I’m working 2 days each 10h, need another 16h for Thursday and Friday And Monday was $0 That’s why I’m mad! Lol |
I'm a little confused. Originally you worked M-F for 7 hours each.
Now she wants you off Monday and working 10 hours Tuesday and Wednesday and then 8 hours Thursday and Friday? So basically you would be going from 35 hours M-F to 36 hours Tues-Friday? If so, I'm not sure where you are losing the money. |
Oh maybe I wrote it wrong She said she can give me 35h a week guaranteed, working a schedule 8am-4pm… But she likely will need more mike 40h most weeks… Schedule is 8/9am -4pm So if I come at 8, work till 4pm, she needs to pay me 8h obviously as an extra hour. So under guaranteed hours she would have to pay me 7h daily, right? 35 guaranteed hours divided by 5 days. So if she gave me Monday off, without honoring the 7 hours , which she SHOULD I have to work the 35 hours within 4 days! So it’s longer hours, cutting into my evening If she had said I’ll pay you for Monday 7h, then I only “owe her 28h “ at the most for the rest of the week Which part don’t you understand??? Would you rather Work 28h and get paid for 35 (guaranteed with Monday paid) Or would you rather get $0 for Monday and work 35h in 4 days? |
There is no need to be rude. Your post was unclear because it appears your MB and you have different ideas of what guaranteed hours are and what was agreed on. FWIW, I agree with you that you should be paid for Monday even if you're not working and then your regularly scheduled hours Tues-, Friday. Regardless, your MB seems like a headache that is not worth it and I'd look for a new job. |
Your posts are very poorly written so I'd drop your attitude if I were you. |
Ok I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to be rude! I haven’t slept in two nights and didn’t eat anything today because my stomach is on fire because of this stress… She said some other stupid things like We don’t have a schedule? What do you mean? 8-4 doesn’t work for me! I’m like wth Again I’m sorry I worked 10h today and feel like 3h were “free work” Please don’t take offense |
I don't think it matters who is right or anything like that. It's clear this isn't a good situation and you should quit and find a new job. |
Guaranteed hours work like this: she needs you for 35 hours, even if she doesn't need 35 hours she pays you the 35 hours.
She is still giving you 35 hours, you just don't like the schedule. That is the issue. She should have asked before changing the schedule, but it isn't like she went from 35 hours to 27 hours without paying you. She still pays you for 35, you just work 4 days instead of 5. |
I don’t know where the problem is … if the original agreement was 35h M-F 7h a day and now she wants you to work 35h in 4 days you either tell her no and take pay cut or work extra hour or two a day and have Monday off. |
