Are nannies interested in positions that the hours will change in the fall? I want to be transparent... but I don't know if anyone would be interested in this working situation?
I'm going to start looking for: June - August: 40 hours a week September and on: 20 hours a week, weekday afternoons and weekends Should I be looking for two separate nannies (one now for summer and one later for fall) or are there nannies who are open to less hours in a few months? Two kids (3 and 1 years old) |
Possibly a college student, but not a professional nanny. |
Two separate Nannie’s. A professional nanny gets guaranteed hours |
No. I can’t imagine that will work for anyone. Plus after school nannies are in the highest demand and the highest paid. After school Nannie’s are pulling in $35 an hour in my neighborhood. |
Only if you doubled her hourly rate for the 20 hour weeks. |
College students are unreliable flakes. Some by nature and some by circumstance (class schedules change every semester). They’re also glued to their phones and full of drama. |
Be upfront with your potential nanny since the beginning OP. That's the best thing you can do. As a nanny, I hate when families are not honest about their upcoming intentions and near future changes. . I wouldn't take a position when my FT position will only last 6 months; just to find out later that parents tell me that they won't need me FT Hours and in the fall and are planning to cut my hours and become a PT. That's why most nannies prefer start a new position with babies. No toddlers and 4 and up. It would work best for you to hire a Summer Nanny and in the fall Hire a P-T nanny after school. |
Who do you envision would be interested in a position that cut their wages in half after a few months? Seriously, OP. The only type of person I could think of is a teacher and she’s going to cost you or a college student who is just a babysitter.
Hire a summer babysitter and then try to find an after school and weekend nanny (but be prepared to pay a lot). |
Nope. The market is so hot right now there's zero reason for someone to make concessions like that.
Maybe if you offer full health insurance |
Let us know if you find someone open to that, OP. |
What will you do about sick days, holidays, etc. |
