We are considering getting a nanny but I am working from home and want the option of nursing my baby rather than pump during the day. What’s the best way to make this work and not awkward for a nanny? Will most Nannies be open to a setup like this? |
Totally open to it! It happens all the time. The nanny hands the baby to you when the baby is hungry and takes it back when the baby is finished. Nanny does the burping and diaper changing.
Why do you think it would be awkward, OP? I’ve seen my employers boobs more than I’ve seen my own! |
Nannie’s love it. It’s a nice little break for them while the mother is nursing.
You should pump at least one bottle a day and have nanny it DH give it to your baby though or you’ll never be able to leave the house. Ask me how I know. |
Yeah, nannies do it all the time. One ground rule through: you feed the baby when the baby is hungry and every time the baby is hungry no matter what you’re in the middle of work wise. You do not leave your baby crying from hunger in nanny’s arms because you’re on a zoom. You pump and leave a bottle if you can’t be disturbed. Or formula. |
It's also good to do this so that the nanny will be able to leave the house as well. While we don't mind having mom breastfeed when babies are still younger, we will want to take advantage of being able to go outside/to activities and be able to plan bottles and naps around it. |
This. If you’re going to exclusively breastfeed your baby, you must be available when the baby is hungry. Neither the baby nor nanny is going to wait patiently while you finish up that important work call. That is my only issue as a nanny with a nursing WFH mother. |
I agree completely. Know your schedule, OP, before committing to EBF at the breast. |
Yes of course nannies are open to it. Why do you think it would be awkward? But I have to echo the above about being available to nurse at a moment’s notice when the baby is hungry especially in the early months. I just tipped the camera if I was on a zoom or often typed over my baby if on a deadline. The baby eating is the most important thing. Luckily my boss got it completely. |
This is ridiculous. Assuming OP is going back to work at 3 months, most hungry babies at that age can wait/be entertained for a few minutes. My DH or mom have often held and walked my baby around for up to 20 minutes so I can shower and scarf down dinner before a nursing session, and baby is none the worse for it. |
