Question for parents! RSS feed

I love organizing! I’ve organized for several families in the past. But limit it to only the children’s things unless asked otherwise. The family I’m currently working for is super tidy but not really organized (totally fine!) I organized their sons drawers in his room. Before, the mom would just throw his clean laundry in and call it good. While doing laundry I took out all his clothes and folded them. After I left I had a bad feeling like maybe I over stepped a boundary. How would you feel about this?

I'd feel fine. Glad someone did it.

Organizing anything for the kids is fantastic - I would be thrilled.

Organizing anything of the parents without checking with me first would be unwelcome. (And unnecessary of course.)

I must be your twin OP!

I was born to organize!!
Whenever I have any downtime such as during a child’s nap, I love to organize.
I will organize the child’s bedroom drawers, closet, toy box/bins, bookshelves, puzzles, games, etc……
The list goes on.

Parents will typically compliment me as well as thank me graciously.
Since hiring a professional organizer would be very pricey - this is a huge benefit as a Nanny.

However I would not organize a parent’s closet or anything unless I had the parent’s permission.
Feel free to ask them if they would like anything of theirs organized if you feel you do not have anything to do.

I am a nanny and organizer-supreme. I always organize my charges drawers but my “speciality” are the toys in the playroom. I hate toys with missing pieces and will spend an hour searching for the fifth ring on the stacking tower or the letter c in the alphabet puzzle. I label bins.

I appreciate that my employers are clean and don’t mind washing a coffee cup or two if I’m doing my charges dishes but draw a line on household tasks outside the kids. Once you unload the dishwasher - unloading the dishwasher becomes part of your job. Don’t do it, OP. Begin as you mean to continue. Your charge will not be sleeping this much in a few short weeks.

I'd be delighted, but be aware we probably wouldn't keep it up - when I'm putting away laundry it would be back to tossing it in the drawer. As long as that wouldn't bother you, organize away, but if you're going to be annoyed by family reverting to their normal methods, then maybe skip it.
