Au Pair leaves for Florida vacation next week… RSS feed

And we have Delta concerns since our youngest child isn’t vaccinated. Any recommendations on how to best handle this? She’s vaccinated, deserves a break and is a great Au pair, but we’re not sure how to best approach this one.

Quarantine and test on return, you pay while she quarantines

OP here - thanks and was considering the same. Maybe put her in a hotel for several days.

We have our Au pair wear a KN95 mask in shared spaces, and have her get a test of the 5th day after she returns.

We just experienced this, b/c she was clearly not socially distancing from photos/videos, she did a rapid test when she came back followed by a PCR a few days later. Quarantine days were paid but counted as vacation days. No going out until negative PCR.

This may help:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html

To sum up the guidance--

Fully vaccinated people can:
-Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel and from self-quarantine after travel.
-However, fully vaccinated people who have come into close contact with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 are to be tested 3-5 days after exposure, and to wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.

I would recommend you review these recommendations with your au pair prior to departure and discuss what the plan will be for her when she returns.
I am a medical doctor and have had several vaccinated patients return from Florida trips with symptomatic COVID in the past two weeks so this is not a risk free activity.

You are going to give her more days of vacation and pay for the hotel? Can I be your au pair?

Insanity. She's vacationing in the epicenter of the virus during a pandemic. And you trust her to make good decisions with your kids?

No - deducting from her annual vacation days.

what were your rules about covid?

we all deserve breaks. we all need to make smart choices. getting paid to go to a hotspot (by choice) and then days off quaranting seems a bit extra.

Quarantine her for 5 days with negative test. Either unpaid or paid but counts as vacation days.

Delta is real!!!

This program is just unworkable in a pandemic. No one with an ounce of sense should be going on a Florida vacation right now, especially if their job involves working with kids who can't get vaccinated yet.

+1000. I anticipate host parents everywhere wondering how they are going to deal with an aupair who doesn't understand that their vaccination status doesn't matter with the delta variant. We stopped hosting for this exact reason. Our aupair was our biggest risk to our children during the height of 2020.

There are families who doesn’t care about covid. Au pairs talk and nobody likes to stay home while others are having great time. I’ve seen many fb posts where family makes sure they mention they have no covid rules to attract au pairs from families with covid rules.

Do they like being on ventilators too?
