Hi fellow nannies, I am curious to know how your day-to-day is going. How are you spending your time? What COVID adjustments have you continued?

I’m doing the household dishes. cooking, grocery list, and laundry with my (homeschooling, elementary age) charges. It’s part hygiene, part food safety, part budgeting time and money.

Nobody is going in any stores. We don’t take the kids if we need to get gas or do anything similar.

I’m homeschooling three inquisitive young minds. Dinner tonight turned into a set of questions and guided discussion on inventions over time (k/4), the importance of the wheel, horse and farms to the development of society (4), forms of energy (k/4), conservation and transfer of energy (4), and why the leek roots that we were attempting to regrow rotted instead of sprouting like the green onions (k/4). I didn’t bring up any of those subjects, but once the topic was raised, I ran with it!

We’re still very much self-isolating. We’ve established a good routine in the one green park near us and I’ve gotten very creative in bringing different activities with us. I set up an “art studio” for us, too.

It’s been really interesting being just one-on-one with my charge all the time with no playgroups, library story times, music classes, etc. My charge has learned to much with just being with me! He’s just 23 months and totally without screens but since March he has learned all his letters and phonetic sounds along with about 30 sight words. He knows numbers and is adding! And we have so much more time for books and open play outside. We have long talks about things lying on our blanket in the grass and looking up at the trees. His reasoning is amazing for such a little guy.

My employer just had a beautiful baby girl two weeks ago and even when covid is over, I’m really going to try to take this same approach with her.

OP here. Thanks for sharing. I am starting to run out of ideas, and feeling a little discouraged with colder weather coming. Please keep sharing!

We have been doing many crafts, dancing and music, and stories.

With colder weather you just dress warmer, that's all. If you have to buy pocket warmers, then do that. My kids love going out for walks in the dark with flashlights.

Northern Virginia is not back to normal . The % positive rate still remains high . YOU chose to go back to normal because you don’t care about not putting your kids’ health at risk .

Their school is open and so are their after school activities. Their daily lives;, school, homework, sports, dinner, shower, bed are basically the same as before.

Its actually pretty common. They are selfish and only care about themselves.

Kids health is not at risk from covid.

The % positive rate in NOVA is really low.

What are you talking about? Please get informed.
