We are looking for a nanny for 4-month-old infant. We need someone M-TH, 8am - 5pm. We are offering $23/hour gross, 4 week paid vacation, guaranteed hours, all federal holidays paid, and 5 sick days a year. We are asking the nanny do light housekeeping - baby bottles, laundry, and cleaning up after baby and herself at the end of the day. We are looking for an experienced ( 5+ years) nanny that speaks English and is willing to work legally. No car required but it’s important nanny is active and willing to take baby on walks and to classes ( once the pandemic is over). Does this sound like a good offer? |
It’s okay but drop the “light housekeeping”. The nanny should do any and all chores related to the child (child’s laundry, cleaning toys, child’s food preparation and bottle washing, keeping play area and child’s room tidy, child’s Linen and towels) No cleaning up after parents at all.
Plus the term “light housekeeping” hasn’t been so abused that it will scare a lot of good nannies away. |
OP here. I will but we only expect the nanny to handle things for the baby. We have a housekeeper and do not expect her to do anything for us. We want the main focus to be our our baby. |
Sounds great to me ! I am a nanny. Where are you located? |
Yes |
Decent. $23/hour for 45 hours works out to $56810 yearly. As long as you built in room for yearly raises and are clear on boundaries (including tardiness on both sides), you should be fine. |
The position is only 36 hours a week, not 45. Monday through Thursday, not Mon-Fri. |
Good but state it as such (chores related to the baby). I would also add what you want the nanny to do (narrate, read, sing, engage). Also add covid expectations. |
Sorry, I missed that. It’s much less desirable. $43k for the year. |
The only problem is that it's less than full time. |
OP here. We are worried about that and are considering pay for 40 hours/week or $25/hour. |
See what your top candidates think. A four day week is a perk for some and a drawback for others. I know our amazing nanny wouldn’t even interview with anyone who needed a full week’s coverage. |
When you advertise, just list the range of hours you are open to as some candidates would love Fridays off and others want full time work. I would also try to increase rate slightly, although the extra weeks of vacation might be a perk for some nannies. |
OP here. We would only need 4 days. We would just pay for 40 hours even though we only need the nanny for 36 hours. We might just do $25 hour. |
That’s $47840 for 40 hours at $23/hour, $46800 for 36 hours at $25/hour. Try 40 hours at $25 or 36 hours at $27.50-28/hour. |
