I start grad school in the fall and I currently work as preschool teacher at a private school but due to some issues with my boss I want to find a new job right away. I got offered a nanny job for $15/h for a one year old baby. I live in Los Angeles. I’m currently not going to work up until April 20, and we’re not gonna get paid until we go back, if we do go back on April 20. I make more at my current job but my boss and some of the other staff members make a toxic work environment (being unprofessional like yelling at co workers, my boss getting upset at me for little things, and other things that add up to wanting me to leave). I know these are hard times and I would like to leave my job but I feel like $15/h is way too low. I asked for $20/h and she said that was not doable for her. Any thoughts? Here in LA, with $15/h I couldn’t even afford to pay rent.

Pay is on low side unless you have guaranteed overtime. But if the baby sleeps a lot and they don't expect you to clean, then guess it could be an easy job but if you can't make ends meet then I think there should be other better paying nanny opportunities in LA. Check Care.com or the like in LA

Keep looking, OP. In LA with a college degree and teaching experience you should be making between $25 and $30 easily. Get with an agency like The Help Agency in Brentwood or Educated Nannies. Even non documented nannies make $20 an hour here.

That pay is really low. I make $29/hr for two school age kids who are super easy. I also babysit on the side for three families with infants and charge $25-30/hr. even the illegal nannies earn $20+

Why would you take a job that you can't live on?
