Charges have runny noses RSS feed

I am a nanny to twin toddlers & preschooler. All three children have runny nose, sneezing & coughing. I decided after being sneezed & coughed on multiple times on yesterday. After talking to parents & finding out they feel like they have colds also. I was not comfortable working until everyone symptoms went away. I also started feeling like I am catching a cold now. Both parents are working from home. I know it's going to be hard with their children trying to work. But the can take turns working & caring for children. It's recommended that if anyone feels sick they should stay home & away from non family members. Am I wrong to say I am uncomfortable working until no symptoms & everyone feels healthy? Am I wrong to still expect to be paid?

Allergies.

Did anyone have a fever?

Kids get colds. In the absence of a fever, I think you’re being premature in asking for sick leave. Plus if they have coronavirus, you’ve already been exposed. Now if you are truly sick, that’s a different story.

OP here I get it could be a cold or just allergies. But the fact is if someone is sick it is recommended to self isolate. As this is all new & godfotbid they could have the beginning states. Yes I would have already exposed. But if I keep going it's not going to help prevent me from passing it on to my family or others in the community. I personally feel best to reevaluate the situation on Sunday. Hopefully everyone will be feeling better. We will know it was nothing. It's only two days parents to work & take care of children. The is tons of parents that are doing that.

People gotta stop panicking!!!
90% of people in NY tested for anything but corona
Flu is a killer and infects probably at least 100 million in the states, and half of them don’t even get tested
Then there is the cold viruses out there and allergies are starting
I’m in nursing school- calm down people
Like the other person said
You’re already infected
Keep working and making money until you can’t breath
Save the sick leave for later in case you do catch it for real

In my state (CA) we just got mandated by our Governor to stay inside at ALL times so pretty soon I am thinking all states where do the same.

So in a few days, you may not have a choice,
It will be mandatory that you cannot work.

I likely wouldn’t go in because at this time even the sniffles can be something more sinister....

+1, you are being paid to be there and work in a private home. If you don't want to work, ask for leave without pay. Its near impossible for them to work with young kids at home. Most jobs require them to have child care.

You try having a professional job and caring for two kids. They hired you to care for their kids so they can work. If they cannot work, they cannot get their income to pay you. You are being absurd.

Pretty sure there is an exception if you are providing childcare.

Runny noses are NOT symptoms of covid. It’s either flu or a cold. Unless you want to take sick leave, no, there’s no reason for you to stay home. But tell the family, so they can find another nanny.

Bull. She should never have stayed. This virus kills and no amount of money is worth your life. Her employers will not give a tinkler's dam if she get the virus from their kids.

Please reference the link provided above. Runny nose is not a covid symptom and fever/shortness of breath are. Kids have family colds, nbd.
