Did Anyone Lose Their Job? RSS feed

I’m wondering if I’m the only one. I live in the Midwest in a state where there are a high number of cases. I barely started working for this new family ( child is a young infant) when all of this hit. The mom assured me things will be fine, but then changed her mind and had postponed my start date until schools/daycare opens back up. Both parents are working remotely now and isolating as much as possible. I fully understand and respect their decision, but it does suck. I have no clue how long this will last and it’s kind of worrying me. It seems many on this board are still working. Anyone else told not to come into work or lost their job?

I’m really sorry, OP.

I’m about to quit. I work for parents who work from home but I have my own young children. If I don’t work I don’t get paid and will lose the job.

I work part-time for two different families.

Both families are teachers. ;(
I live in CA where our governor stated a few days ago that the school districts here in our state will likely not open until the Fall.

So even though I haven’t technically been let go -
I feel as if I have already.

^^ If I found a new family during this time, I would likely take a position w/them & tell the other two families that I can no longer continue w/them.

Because neither have offered to continue paying me - I am guessing because I am only part time?

This two weeks we ALL nanny’s should be paid
The government is sending checks to people, waiving mortgages , most families we work for have way more money we will ever have, and if the parents are bringing money in, nannies should too, negotiate like that! The president called a national health emergency , it’s about life and death, how dare they not pay us. Plus they’ll be out of nannies for months to come if they stop paying and losing nannies. How are they going to interview new nannies in the next 6 months to come? Au pairs won’t be flying in from overseas for the next monthS to come. It’s affecting everybody. The same goes for every other boss in every Other sector. If your company makes money, pay your employees, especially if they can work from home. My boss works in sakes and still work online, other patent is still writing tax returns, he’s still bringing money in.

Ask for money! We are in a 15 day social distancing health emergency
If you think the parents are still making money through online Jobs or through work from home, they should give you options, regarding work and pay
They’ll be getting checks from the government, waived mortgages maybe they’re even multi millionaires
People working minimum wage don’t hire nannies
First think about how to negotiate in these times
If they say no pay, either wait till they pay you or quit and get government assistance

I don't know if I can continue to go to work and I don't envision how my NF can continue paying me indefinitely.

My employers are not Mr. and Mrs. Megabucks, their names are Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Doe.

well unfortunately hundreds or thousands of us nannies might end up jobless
What was the last time we were jobless and the economy crashed, just because 60k died of the flu, or bc a million died in car crashes, or bc a million died of cancer
When?!?!??!
I have yet to see mass graves and body bags and al the millions infected the government in NY is “promising” us
And where is the army governor? Think about that for a minute
We are up to 165 deaths in the US, ny now I was expecting 165k
Call me an a*, but just answer my questions and you’ll see what I’m taking about
Millions of people jobless
Thousands will do suicide
For what? A virus that gives you 80% no symptoms or mild cough, and 20% more like a flu
Mass hysteria and social media at its finest

OP here. You're very uneducated on the subject and ignorant. Many cases and deaths are rising in the U.S. and all over the world. Social distancing and shutting things down is a way to prevent the spread. Yes, it may be mild for 80% of the population, but the 20% won't just " get something more like a flu". People are dying. The elderly and immunocompromised people are in the greatest danger. I have family members with preexisting conditions that can complicate and even kill them if the get the virus. This will likely tank our economy and send us into a recession. You are so uneducated and ignorant it's sad.

The only reason that it it slowly spreading is because many of us are taking the proper precautions to social distance and self isolate. It would be way worse ( I'ma assuming you're one of the dumb young kids who are selfishly still partying) if people decided not to isolate.
